The singer later went on to compete on The Voice during its sixth season. She wowed the judges with her powerful rendition of Miley Cyrus‘ “Wrecking Ball” and ended up finishing in third place after competing on Adam Levine‘s team.

“Christina was a natural, a gifted talent that comes along so rarely,” the Maroon 5 singer said shortly after her death. “This is yet another senseless act of extreme violence. I am left stunned and confused how these things can conceivably continue to happen in our world.” Selena also tweeted her condolences stating, “My heart is absolutely broken. I miss you Christina.”

The TV special will detail her rapid rise to fame before it was tragically stolen from her by the senseless act of violence. “[Christina] really beautiful utilized the tools that we have now. You know, back in the day, if you wanted to get a record deal it was this thing that wasn’t available to anyone,” a friend added. “But now, we have the Internet where anybody who’s talented can upload a video, and it can get attention and you have an entire career.”
