When it comes to her split from Tarek El Moussa, Flip or Flop star Christina El Moussa is not holding back. In a new interview, the blonde beauty opened up about the impact going through a divorce has had on her and her family. The former couple announced they would split in December 2016 after seven years of marriage, and in January Tarek officially filed for divorce. They share two children together — a daughter named Taylor and a son named Brayden.

“The divorce was filed in January by Tarek and I responded to the filing last week. We currently have joint custody of our two children and that is our plan moving forward,” she explained to Good Housekeeping. The publication added she will also seek spousal support from her ex to pay for her attorney fees.

Christina, who is now ~officially~ dating her former flame Doug Spedding, also opened up about how she broke the news to her parents. She explained she was very private when it came to their relationship, even with them.

“I wasn’t very vocal with them about some of the issues that Tarek and I were having, so all of the sudden it’s like bam — I’ve moved out, I’m living at my nanny’s house. It came as a shock to 99.9% of people, including my parents,” she revealed. “Tarek was talking to them more than I was at first, and that made it a little difficult because they were just hearing his side. They were hoping we would be able to reconcile, especially for the kids, and also because Tarek and I had built such a life together. We were involved in every aspect of each other’s life, we still are. But in the end, it’s mine and Tarek’s decision, and only ours.”

Their daughter, Taylor, attended therapy for awhile as a coping mechanism to deal with the HGTV stars’ split, but one day made a surprising revelation. “One day, as I was driving her to an appointment, she said, ‘I don’t need to go to therapy anymore. I think you and Daddy are happier apart, and I don’t really need to talk about it anymore,'” the mother-of-two recalled. “She’s very open and honest with her feelings, but still I was like, ‘Wow, that’s a big comment for a six-year-old.'”

It sounds like everything is working out well for their family!
