One of Hollywood’s most prolific tweeters, Chrissy Teigen, has left the social media site after a controversial tweet ignited a firestorm yesterday, Oct. 22.
“I feel sick. Bye Twitter. Taking my talents to Instagram,” Mrs. John Legend wrote on the micro-blogging site today, Oct. 23, before abandoning ship.
The social media storm came shortly after news broke that a gunman had fatally shot a corporal at the National War Museum in Ottawa. She wrote, “active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in america, wednesday [sic].”

Though she originally defended her message — writing “Sorry you don’t understand that is a knock at America and our issues with gun control. No one is minimizing the Ottawa shooting” — she had a change of heart after an influx of negative messages.
“I can’t see anything through the sea of hate and anger that is now my Twitter,” she wrote before sending her final tweet. “Seriously I can’t sift through it all.”

This comes just months after she told In Touch she has “no regrets” when it comes to speaking her mind on Twitter.
“People say the most vile things,” she told the mag at the time. “It’s hard not to be affected. But I tell myself they’re just people who are a little too bored.”
