On July 20, for the first time, Chris Brown publicly apologized for beating up his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. The apology comes six months after the incident, which left Rihanna in the hospital and Chris Brown arrested. “I am very sad and very ashamed of what I have done,” he says in a two-minute video posted on his web site. “I have told Rihanna countless times and I’m telling you now I am truly, truly sorry.”
He adds that he is seeking counseling to “ensure what happened in February will never happen again,” and states, “I have done a lot of soul-searching.” In June, the R&B singer pleaded guilty to one felony count and was sentenced to five years probation. He was also ordered to stay 50 yards away from Rihanna (10 yards at industry events) and perform 180 hours of community service in his home state of Virginia.
