Handler's Plan to
Leave Show After
Dissing E! Network
What would the world come to once Chelsea Lately is no longer on the air? Who would replace the only female late night talk show host? More importantly, where will Chuy Bravo be going?!
Okay, so luckily we still have nine months to figure all of this out.
Once Chelsea Handler’s contact expires at the end of the year, there has been talk of her ending her talk show after being on air since 2007 and gaining an average viewership of 572,000 per night.
“Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires,” her manager, Irving Azoff, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “She hired me to figure out life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.”
Chelsea Handler (pictured in Austin, TX, on March 30) is currently on a 31-date national tour to promote her new book.
If Chelsea does decide to leave, she will be ending her $9 million-a-year deal in hopes of getting more exposure on either a radio show or another nightly or weekly late-night show on another network or digital platform.
After a March 5 appearance on Howard Stern’s radio show, it became evident that the 39-year-old host wanted out saying E! is "a sad, sad place to live" and that she "might be looking for a new house soon."
“When I came to E! it was a much different network. It was bigger and it was cooler. Now it’s just sad,” Handler told Stern. “They don’t know what they’re doing. They have no idea. Everything they do—it’s just a failure.”
An E! spokesperson told THR that E! “will not comment on the future” of the show.
Even though the direction of Chelsea's journalism career is unclear, her other passion - writing - is currently on the rise.
Her new book Uganda Be Kidding Me has made it to the No. 3 spot on New York Times’ Best-Sellers list.
