Some famous rumors just won't die. They grow and take on a life of their own as fans spread it as fact when really it's just a celebrity urban legend.
And now with social media making the spread of false quotes and "fake news" easier than ever, a lot of old rumors that have long been debunked are making the rounds again, duping a new generation of fans who think the lies are facts. A good example? Rihanna.

In 2015, Rihanna's ex-publicist, Jonathan Hay, admitted to starting the rumor that she had an affair with Jay Z as a PR stunt to promote "Pon de Replay." Hay said the rumor got so out of hand, he had to personally apologize to Beyoncé herself.
“I apologized to her ... this whole thing is very awkward,” Jonathan told The New York Daily News. "I didn't think it would be this big story... I'm ashamed that I'm even talking about this. I just want to put this rumor to rest once and for all.”

Long before people were speculating who "Becky" was, there were rumors that Jay Z cheated on Beyoncé with Rihanna. The rumors were so prevalent, fans were adament that Beyoncé's "Ring the Alarm" from her sophomore album B'Day was about the whole sordid affair.
However, in 2015, Rihanna's ex-publicist Jonathan Hay revealed that he made up the rumors to boost his client's career.
“The PR stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break ‘Pon de Replay’," he said. “It was reckless and I didn't think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.”
And stick it did — people still think this rumor is true!
