Cameron Diaz to Play
Miss Hannigan in
Remake of 'Annie'
Cameron Diaz is headed to Easy Street.
The starlet has been cast as Miss. Hannigan in the new Annie movie, which will be produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z and is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day in 2014.
Sandra Bullock was rumored to be the frontrunner for the role of the boozy, loudmouthed Orphanage caretaker, but it seems the bubbly blonde was next in line after Sandy opted out.
But Cameron isn’t the only A-lister involved in the remake of the 1982 big-screen classic.
Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis will play the film’s star, little orphan Annie, and Jamie Foxx is Daddy Warbucks. Easy A’s Will Gluck will call the shots as the flick’s director.
Cameron has some big shoes to fill, though. Her role was made famous by Carol Burnett, whose adaptation landed her a Golden Globe nomination. And currently, Glee star Jane Lynch is playing Miss Hannigan in Annie on Broadway.
Now there's just one thing left to learn: who's the lucky dog that gets to play Sandy?
