Amid rumors that Brittany Murphy — who died suddenly of cardiac arrest on December 20 at the age of 32 — was a drug user, TMZ reports she was in
possession of a shocking number of prescription medications, many of which
are used to treat anxiety and pain.
Brittany’s husband, Simon Monjack, stated that his wife was suffering from
pre-existing conditions including diabetes and a heart murmur. He also said
she had been having bad menstrual symptoms, an upset stomach and flu-like
symptoms in the days leading up to her death.
According to TMZ, a check of Brittany's nightstand revealed large amounts of
prescription medications in her name. Brittany’s prescription collection
included Topomax, an anti-seizure and migraine medication also known for its
side effect of rapid weight loss; Fluoxetine, an antidepressant; Klonopin
and Ativan both anxiety meds; Carbamezepine, a diabetes and bipolar
medication and Vicoprofen and Hydrocodone for pain. Also found were some
empty prescription bottles prescribed to her husband, as well as
prescription bottles for her mother and other unidentified people.
Toxicology reports determining which, if any of the medications, Brittany
had taken before her death could take up to six weeks to complete.
