Brittany Murphy fans will get to see the late starlet on the big screen one last time.
It was announced earlier this week that Something Wicked, the 32-year-old’s final film, will be released more than four years after her tragic death.
According to the official Facebook page for the movie, Something Wicked will make its theatrical debut in Eugene, Ore. on April 4 and will open in more theaters in the Pacific Northwest if it succeeds at the box office.
The film’s writer and producer, Joe Colleran, told the New York Daily News production was slowed because they had the extraordinary responsibility of making sure Brittany’s last on-film portrayal lived up to her legacy as an actress.
“It is an additional responsibility, you do want her performance to be the best it can be, because unfortunately it’s her last performance,” Colleran. “The first months of reviewing the footage and starting to put things together and then seeing her and hearing her voice—it’s very emotional.”
Brittany died in December 2009 from pneumonia and severe anemia, just five months before her husband Simon Monjack succumbed to the same illnesses.
According to the Daily News, the R-rated thriller tells the story of an engaged couple whose life together is threatened by some dark secrets from their past—and Colleran said Brittany totally nailed her role.
