As a longtime member of the Britney Army (I’ve been serving since 1998), I was understandably shaken when my queen took to Instagram on Thursday, Sept. 7, to inform me and her legions of other fans that she was thinking about cutting her hair. In case you haven’t noticed, Britney Spears’ hair has legit never looked better — which is why I and many others are freaking TF out. Learn more in the video below!

The 35-year-old pop diva posted a picture of herself and her long, luscious mane, telling her millions of followers that she had just brightened up her signature blonde locks. “Got my roots colored today!!!” she captioned a silly-faced selfie. What a wonderful update, right?

Not so fast. Despite having a head of hair that even Rapunzel would be jealous of, Brit-Brit then said that she was considering chopping it all off. “But now I think I want to CUT it!!!! ????,” she wrote, igniting a silent (albeit powerful) rage inside me.

Britney, weren’t you born to make me happy, girl?! If you meant what you sang at 17, then you should know that making me — and a whole lot of other people! — happy means maintaining the ability to execute a solid hair flip. Because, TBH, what is a Britney concert without plenty of hair-ography? Sidenote: I just saw the “Slumber Party” singer do her thing live at her Piece of Me residency in Las Vegas with my 57-year-old mom — and even she couldn’t shut up about how healthy and stunning Britney’s long hair looked.

I’m obviously not the only one who felt personally victimized (JK, but not really) by Britney’s insensitive threat. In her comments section, the Grammy winner’s fans begged her not to cut her hair. “Nooo, please do not cut your beautiful long hair, darling,” one wrote, while another practically scream-typed from their phone, “No don’t! Your long hair is gorgeous!!!”

Well, regardless of what us short hair critics think, there were a handful of fans who voiced their support for Britney’s potential new ‘do. “YAAASSS cut it queen,” one encouraged, while another noted, “You would rock a short ‘do!”

At least wait until your Piece of Me shows wrap up at the end of the year? Pretty please with a bundle of extensions on top?
