According to a recent legal documents filed on Britney Spears’ behalf, the 34-year-old was dealing with not only mental health issues, but also a drug problem prior to her 2007 meltdown.
The new information comes as Britney is scheduled to sit down for a deposition for a case against her one-time friend and former manager, Sam Lutfi.

In the papers filed by Brit’s team, they are trying to keep the Pop Princess away from Sam — and they explain that Brit’s life was in “turmoil” when she met her former manager; at the time, she was going through a divorce, custody battle and estrangement from her parents.
“In addition, she was struggling with drug abuse,” the papers state, per TMZ.
While the judges say Sam urged the mom-of-two to get clean, her family is arguing that he’s the one who provided her with the drugs.
