In yet another surreal turn of events, Britney Spears was physically removed by police from her home at the Summit in Studio City early this morning. She has been placed on a "mental health evaluation hold," according to authorities. The troubled singer was admitted at 1:58 a.m. to the UCLA Medical Center on a 5150 hold, where she'll be kept in the psych ward for up to 72 hours. "It's true. Britney was a threat to herself," an insider told E! News. "She's finally been committed. She has been out of control and not listening to anyone, totally uncontrollable and was worrying everyone by not taking any medication. She hasn't slept in three days."
Manager Sam Lutfi was responsible for alerting Brit's psychiatrist, who called the police. Britney's mom, Lynne Spears, in a car with her friend Jackie and Brit's beau, Adnan Ghalib, followed the ambulance to the hospital, along with at least a dozen police cars and motorcycles. Britney's father, Jamie Spears, arrived separately, as did Alli Sims and Sam. However, Sam was not allowed into the waiting area at the family's request.
This is the second time Britney has been placed on a 72-hour welfare hold. The first was on January 3, when she refused to give up custody of her sons to ex-husband, Kevin Federline, causing a three-hour standoff with police.
