Paris Hilton was released from jail early this morning for medical reasons - but she is still not a free woman. The heiress will remain under house arrest for 40 days, LA County Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore said at a press conference this morning.
Whitmore said Paris, 26, was "re-assigned" to house arrest after extensive consultation with doctors, but would not say what the specific medical problem is, due to privacy issues. .
She left the jail in Lynwood at 2:09 a.m., he added.
He said Paris' legal team had agreed with the decision to fit her with an ankle bracelet. If she leaves her house, she will be taken back to court and likely sentenced to a 90-day jail term.
"She can't leave her home at all," he said.
Whitmore said Paris has been credited with serving five days in jail — even though she went in after 10 p.m. on Sunday and was released before dawn today, both days are taken into consideration.
