It’s been a long, difficult road. Teen Mom OG stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra has been sharing their journey with their audience ever since their episode of 16 and Pregnant, which documented their unplanned teen pregnancy and their brave decision to place their daughter Carly for an open adoption. Catelynn and Tyler have been open about their struggle to maintain a relationship with Carly’s adoptive parents Brandon and Teresa Davis over the past eight years, but it seems like they’ve been able to work things out because they were able to visit with Brandon, Teresa, and their biological daughter Carly in North Carolina this year! Keep reading below to find out more about Brandon and Teresa!

Who are Brandon and Teresa Davis?

The couple is from North Carolina and for reasons unknown, they were unable to conceive a child together naturally so they opted for adoption with the faith-based Bethany Christian Services. Catelynn and Tyler used the same agency — which has multiple locations around the world — and they chose Brandon and Teresa as Carly’s parents.

In Brandon and Teresa’s adoption video for the agency, they introduced themselves as a fun-loving, couple who owned a pet dog and liked to spend time with family and friends and volunteer at their church’s nursery. During a presentation at Michigan State University in 2012 to help advocate for adoption, Cate and Ty said that Brandon and Teresa were exactly the type of people that she wanted to raise their daughter.

“Right off the bat, we knew they were the ones for us,”Catelynn said, according to local paper Michigan Live. “They were everything I wanted.”

Why did Brandon and Teresa cut off Catelynn and Tyler?

Even though Brandon and Teresa (or B & T, as they’re referred to on the show) were everything Cate and Ty wanted for Carly, they still struggled with the terms of their open adoption and Cate even admitted in a previous episode of Teen Mom OG that she was too young at the time to really understand the contract that she signed when she was a teenager. Even though they hoped to visit regularly with Carly and receive updates on her, it stated that those things would be entirely up to Brandon and Teresa’s discretion and they have the right to deny visits.

It didn’t help that Catelynn and Tyler went against Brandon and Teresa’s wishes. A few years ago, Tyler posted a photo of Carly on his Instagram — which boasts more than two million followers — and B & T got upset because they want their daughter to have a normal life and they worried about her safety because strangers who recognized her from the show or social media would come up to her while the family was out in public.

But B & T were kind enough to attend Cate and Ty’s 2015 wedding and they brought Carly along so she could be there on her birth parents’ big day, and that was the last time they saw Carly. Cate and Ty speculated that Brandon and Teresa got nervous because of Carly’s attachment to her birth parents and hoped to create some sort of distance between them.

What is the state of Catelynn and Tyler’s relationship with Brandon and Teresa now?

Catelynn and Tyler were denied their annual visit with Carly in 2016, but Brandon and Teresa had a change of heart and decided to allow them to reunite this year. The precious reunion went down on the Jan. 2 episode of the show, and it made Catelynn super emotional. “It’s just about the what-ifs,” she said. “Seeing them together, I could tell [Carly] misses us. She asked her mom if she could ride with us and she told her, ‘no.’ It’s just stupid s–t like that [that bothers me].” Luckily, Carly and little Nova got along amazingly. “She was so into Nova, holy crap,” gushed Tyler, while Catelynn agreed, saying, “Yeah, she’s obsessed with her.” Hopefully they will be able to spend more time together after this meeting went so well!
