One high school senior totally bombed his prom-posal. Sure, the girl said yes… But administration at his high school suspended him after he decided to strap a fake bomb to his chest as a “creative” way to ask a fellow student to prom.
Ibrahim Ahmad’s suspension will last five days — which means he’ll be missing Saturday night’s dance.

He concocted his fake bomb by strapping red tubes and wires — made to look like explosives — to a paintball vest. In addition to his get-up, he made a sign that read, “I kno it’s A little late, But I’m kinda…THE BOMB! Rilea, Will U Be My Date to Prom? [sic]”
The Washington state student, who proposed the question on the school's property, said he felt pressure to “go big” when asking his classmate to the dance. Too bad the institution disagreed and determined he ought to “go home” instead.
“I’m Middle Eastern, and I thought the bomb was kind of funny and clever,” he told ‘The Columbian.’ “I wasn’t wearing the vest for more than, like, 20 seconds. I asked her, took a picture, took it off, and then the school got upset.”
The school’s superintendent justified the suspension by saying Ibrahim ought to be punished for disrupting the learning environment, adding, “I want all my kids to feel safe and supported.”
But there’s no reason to believe any of his peers were threatened by his prom-posal gag. Video taken by another classmate shows students laughing and cheering for Ibrahim.
Ibrahim says he plans on having a special evening with his date, Rilea Wolfe, even though they won’t be attending the soiree. And while he understands the school’s actions on some levels, he thinks they overreacted — and believes his race may have played a part.
“It was really unfair, and it kind of felt racist,” he said. “If anyone else did that, I feel like no one else would have gotten in trouble for it.”
