Following Gwen Stefani’s emotional performance of “Used to Love You” on The Voice, her new boyfriend Blake Shelton couldn’t help but beam with pride for the No Doubt rocker and the success of her new heartbreaking hit song!

“Right when she wrote the song she was playing it for all of her friends because it was like, 'Oh my gosh, I put exactly what I wanted to say into a song,'” the country crooner, 39, revealed after Monday’s taping of the singing competition.

He went on to explain how the song’s success on the charts is especially exciting because it was inspired by such a personal experience.

“It’s not just this work of art and piece of her, it’s also turning into a smash. She deserves it,” he gushed to Extra.
“If you go through whatever she went through to write that song, at least she’s getting something good and positive out of it.”

While the mom-of-three, 46, hasn’t commented on the specifics of “whatever she went through” that inspired the song, the touching lyrics make it clear that it was influenced by her divorce from Gavin Rossdale.
Earlier this year, they called it quits after 13 years of marriage after he allegedly had an affair with their nanny.
