The reign of Matt Lauer is over on the Today show, and he was officially replaced with veteran Hoda Kotb on Jan. 2. Fans were over the moon to hear that she was going to be staying on as Savannah Guthrie’s co-host, but they didn’t forget about another beloved anchor. “Congrats Hoda!!! Can we now get @AnnCurry back on the team too?” wrote one hopeful fan, while another agreed, writing, “Now bring back Ann Curry!” Guess what? That could totally happen!

“There is talk now of bringing Ann back,” a Savannah and Hoda insider told Life & Style in December, adding that roles including special correspondent and co-host fill-in are under consideration. “They’ve always felt Ann was an incredibly likable colleague. They feel there’s a place for her” on the show. We can’t help but agree!

However, just because Hoda and Savannah want Ann back doesn’t mean you should expect her on Today soon. She just announced her new PBS show We’ll Meet Again, which tells the story of people whose paths crossed at very important moments in their lives. It looks sweet, emotional, and intense, and we’re so excited for her!

It sounds like a lot has already changed at Today since Matt left. “Matt was a strong presence and definitely cast a shadow,” an NBC insider told Life & Style. “Now it’s a friendlier feeling. No one is walking on eggshells.” That intensity is allegedly one of the reasons that Ann felt that she needed to leave the morning show in the first place, so it would be a much warmer environment if she came back.

The whole scenario has strengthened Hoda and Savannah’s friendship immeasurably. “Savannah and Hoda never thought that they would be this close, but they’ve actually bonded over Matt’s betrayal and departure,” said the source. “They’re still hurt, reeling over the details of Matt’s disgusting behavior. He had to go, and now Savannah and Hoda are better friends because of it and their show is doing better than it was before. Privately, they’re proud of the success.”
