“Have you ever thought about your childhood? Have you ever thought about what makes you, you? Why you have certain quicks? I always have. What I found out is that we don’t inherit our personalities but instead we develop certain traits as a result of the experiences we pass through in life. Our childhood plays a HUGE role on who we become as an adult,” she wrote with a pic of her as a little kid.

She continued, “I always thought I had to pretend everything was perfect and I always used to put everything in a good light. I grew up very early at a young age but I never wanted anyone to know the hurt and chaos I was experiencing at home, so I covered it with a smile. It’s frightening to uncover where all your behavioral traits come from, but it’s also beneficial for future healthy relationships. I’m thankful for this program, because in this episode, I begin to connect the dots. I broke down walls that were sky-high. This episode is going to be heartbreaking, but hopefully all the stories you will hear will help someone else who watching this episode on Friday. Hugs to everyone for being real and honest. It takes a very strong person to expose themselves for the world to see.”

Amy’s upbringing was very different than that of her famous cousins, who were raised by the ultra-conservative Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.

She previously revealed she was born out of wedlock.

“My mom and dad did have me out of wedlock. Just because we are Christians doesn’t make us perfect, it just makes us forgiven. Just because I share the Duggar name doesn’t mean my life is perfect,” she wrote on Instagram.

Marriage Boot Camp airs on Friday nights at 9 p.m. on WeTV.
