On the outside, it may look like Adam Busby has it all together — six healthy children, a hot wife, and a hit reality show — but the OutDaughtered star recently revealed that the birth of his quintuplets deeply affected him. On Twitter, he admitted to fans that he experienced postpartum depression (PPD), after a concerned fan suggested he might be depressed. Although PPD is most often associated with mothers, research shows that 10 percent of fathers can exhibit symptoms as well.

He wrote, “Read the statistics… It’s not fun to talk about, but if me talking about this helps any dads out there, then it’s all worth it.” Surprisingly, the TV dad received some backlash following his confession with people calling him “not strong” and telling him to “man up,” to which he quickly responded, “You know that depression isn’t a choice?” he tweeted. “Exposing my flaws for the sake that it might help others on a worldwide stage? No, that’s not strong at all.” You tell ’em!

Others, however, thanked Adam for his bravery. “So much respect for you, man. Really admire your tenacity and clear devotion to your family,” one person said. Another added, “Men don’t usually talk about depression. I applaud Adam and Danielle on OutDaughtered for tackling it on air.” A third chimed in, “Thank you, Adam, for allowing us into ur private struggles. PPD is real for dads as well as moms. Thank you for opening the door for other dads.”

Danielle — Adam’s wife — also got in on the conversation and jumped in to support her man. She tweeted, “I am 100 percent [supportive] of my husband, he is my other half! It’s just shocking to hear what he has been going through.” We wish Adam the best of luck in his recovery! Side note: These two are #RelationshipGoals.

OutDaughtered airs Tuesdays on TLC at 9 p.m. EST.
