There still might be hope for Paul Staehle and his estranged wife Karine Martins. Fans were first introduced to the couple on Season 1 of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé spin-off 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, where they met each other for the first time and got engaged at the end of the season — but a whole mess of drama went down after the cameras stopped rolling. Paul and Karine split up right before Valentine’s Day after Paul publicly accused his wife of cheating on him and the couple has been estranged ever since — but it looks like they’re trying to make things work after they reunited for Paul’s birthday.

Paul and Karine secretly got married in Brazil, and even though Paul previously said he booked his flight back home to the United States after their split, it seems that he is still living in Brazil since his Facebook posts are geotagged in Manaus, Brazil. Karine must have felt bad that Paul would be celebrating his 35th birthday alone in a foreign country, so she surprised him with a little party.

“Karine surprised me today… Bought me this shirt…brought me downstairs where her family held a very nice surprise birthday party,” Paul wrote on Facebook. “Even in the mist of drama and fighting they still showed me a nice birthday. I was shocked and extremely honored and happy it brought tears to my eyes.”

In the comments thread, Paul had a conversation with his pal Jason Hitch — who starred on Season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé with his wife Cassia Tavares — and he revealed some new details to his friend. Paul confirmed that he is still in Brazil and has been there for about six months and he is currently taking online college courses while Karine is attending school to learn English. But when Jason asked if Paul and Karine are done filming, he said “No…” which means they could appear on an upcoming season of the show. Watch the video below to find out which of some of the most popular couples from 90 Day Fiancé are still together!
