Jan. 23, 2015 marks 17 years since the cinematic masterpiece known as Spice World premiered in the United States!
We know, we know — we nearly choked on our Chupa-Chups when we realized it’s been almost two decades since Girl Power was brought to the big screen.
A lot has changed since the ladies first spiced up our lives: Baby Spice had a baby, Posh Spice grew up to be Victoria Beckham!
Instead of wondering where the time has gone since they promised us “Viva Forever,” we figure we’d honor this brilliant film’s legacy by collecting eight fun facts that you probably never knew about the flick (and some references that definitely went over your head as a child...)!
Sadly, ‘Spice World’ was totally snubbed at the Oscars, but it did get nominated for several Golden Raspberries, which recognizes the worst in films. In 1998, the flick was nominated for Worst Actress, Worst New Star, Worst Original Song, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Screen Couple, Worst Screenplay and Worst Picture.
It only won for Worst Actress (for all five ladies), but it is listed as one of the 100 worst movies ever made in Razzie founder John Wilson’s book!
Victoria Beckham knows what’s up, though. In an interview with ‘Vogue,’ in January 2015 she was asked about the movie and said, “I’m still waiting for my lifetime achievement award.”
