Looks like Jared Fogle has made at least one friend in prison! TMZ reports that the disgraced Subway spokesman, 40, has befriended a lawyer named Frank Edwin Pate, who is currently behind bars on a fraud charge. TMZ has obtained legal docs filed by the jailhouse attorney stating there’s no proof that Jared traveled to have sex with a minor — one of the charges that landed Jared behind bars.

Of course, it’ll be an uphill battle for the lawyer, considering the court doesn’t have to prove anything since Jared accepted a plea deal, for which he pleaded guilty to two counts, one of distribution and receipt of child pornography and one of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor (from Indiana to NYC, where he also was charged with paying to engage in sexual acts with a teenager). As part of the deal, he has a minimum of 13 years behind bars, additionally, he agreed to pay $100,000 in restitution to each of the 14 victims, who were either in images possessed by Jared or one of the people who Jared paid to have sex with.

While Jared seems to have found camaraderie with one of his inmates, life behind bars definitely hasn’t been easy on the father-of-two. As In Touch previously reported, he has been attacked in prison by his fellow inmates on multiple occasions. Additionally, his decision to work with a fellow inmate/lawyer in order to appeal his sentence likely won’t come as a surprise to those who have closely followed his case; in 2016, In Touch Weekly exclusively obtained his jailhouse letters to a friend, in which he downplayed his crimes and shared his ambitions of getting out of the slammer.

“It has been a very hard nine months for me. I made a coule of mistakes, but nothing like the media reports have said. They are making me into some sort of monster, which is absolutely not true,” he wrote. “I’m currently appealing my prison sentence and am hoping for the best with it. Bottom line, my director of my foundation and friend did some bad stuff and tried to throw me under the bus with him.” Check out the best true crime documentaries you can stream now on Netflix!
