Her family is finally getting some closure. Nearly two years after Sundance TV star Loredana Nesci was senselessly killed, her former boyfriend Robert Reagan has been sentenced to 16 years to life in prison for her death. The sentencing comes just weeks after he was found guilty of the second-degree murder of his girlfriend, who starred on her own reality show called Loredana, Esq..

Loredana, who was 47 at the time of her death in 2015, is survived by her then-five-year-old son, Rocco, whom she shared with Reagan. During the sentencing, her brother Robert read a letter written to the man charged with his sister’s murder. “I will never know what Loredana ever saw in you,” the letter read. “She wasted years of her life, gifted you with so much money, and foolishly believed in your stories. You told her lie after lie. You were never grateful, but just like any other con man, you tried to dig deeper and get more out of her for doing nothing. And when she was finally going to leave you, you gutted her like a farm animal.”

The former LAPD officer’s family has been on the path to justice since her death in 2015. Reagan was initially arrested in July 2015, when he called police to report her death when she was found slain in their LA-area home, which she shared with her boyfriend-turned-killer. According to law enforcement, she appeared to have been stabbed or shot, and when Reagan called the police to report her death, he was immediately questioned by officers and booked on suspicion of murder.

While on trial for second-degree murder, Reagan, 53, maintained his innocence, saying that her death was an accident following an altercation. During his testimony on his own behalf in August, he said that she pulled the knife on him and died when she fell over onto the weapon. He said during his testimony, “I turned her over. Her eyes were open and her mouth was open. Her stomach was wife open, and her intestines were hanging out… I kind of lost it. I became very emotional. I was screaming, ‘No!’ and I was shaking her. I punched her on her chest and I tried to blow in her mouth… She was dead.”
