If you’re wondering what it was like when Vili Fualaau told his two now-teenaged daughters the story of how he met their mother — his then-teacher, now-wife, Mary Kay Letourneau — we have disappointing news…

Even though it’s the classic bizarre and absolutely romantic horrifying tale of boy-meets-full-grown-woman-who-is-married-with-four-kids-and-also-happens-to-be-his-sixth-grade-teacher, the 53-year-old registered sex offender said they never sat down and formally told their daughters — Audrey, 17, and Georgia, 16 — about their controversial affair because they didn’t have to.

“There was never a sit-down chat, ‘Now is the time we’re going to talk to our children about this,’” MK told Barbara Walters during a sit-down interview — airing tonight, April 10, at 10 p.m. on ABC — to mark the couple’s 10th wedding anniversary.

“They seemed to already know, because they grew up with it… There’s just never been a ‘Wow, we better explain’ [moment].”

For those of you unfamiliar with Mary Kay and Vili’s story, the two first met when she was a second grade teacher and he was a student at a Seattle-area elementary school. They crossed paths again when she was his sixth grade teacher, and began having a sexual relationship when she was 34, and he was only 12.

Their affair became public when she fell pregnant with Audrey while she was still his teacher. Their older daughter was born in May 1997, while MK was out on bail, awaiting her trial (she went on to serve three months behind bars for the charges). Vili was only 13 when he became a father for the first time.

In February 1998, the now-married couple were caught having sex in her car even though she had agreed to avoid all contact with Vili as part of her plea deal.

Her actions had consequences — specifically, a seven-and-a-half year jail sentence for violating the terms of her probation and a second pregnancy (Georgia was born in October 1998, while mom was behind bars).

While Mary Kay says she gave the interview to Barbara Walters to “protect [her] girls from the inevitable,” a source close to the family tells ‘Radar Online’ she has other intentions.

“She is notoriety hungry,” the source says. “They’re doing this because they want their two kids to have the notoriety that she gave her other children, who suffered so much for it.”

One happy family.

The source goes on to say that she is estranged from three of her four adult children from her first marriage — who just want to put the scandal behind them.

“They don’t understand her lifestyle. It’s hard for them,” the source explains. “The family wishes she would just leave the media alone. It’s water under the bridge. It just opens up old wounds and brings back bad memories for her kids.”
