Looks like fans of 50 Shades of Grey have found something as passionate as Christian and Anastasia’s steamy love affair—their feelings about the movie’s casting!

Fans of the erotic series expressed their disappointment in Charlie Hunnam as the successful and sexy Christian Grey, and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia, Mr. Grey’s naïve but adoring counterpart.

But the film’s crew—including author E. L. James—are standing by the cast!

“To all the supporters, lovers and haters – thank you so much for the passion that you have for this project,” the 50-year-old mom of two wrote on Twitter. “You all rock. All of you.”

Producer Dana Brunetti also defended the production’s decision and addressed why the stars may not be exactly who fans pictured.

“There is a lot that goes into casting that isn’t just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc.” he tweeted, adding, “So if your favorite wasn’t cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective.”

While fans may be disappointed in not getting their dream cast—they are in good company. Writer Bret Easton Ellis revealed on Twitter that E.L. James’ own first choice was Rob Pattinson—which shouldn’t surprise anyone, as the novel was inspired by Twilight!

Still, the crew behind the movie seems to show nothing but enthusiasm and support for their cast—but fans will just have to wait until next year to know for sure!
