If you love the movie PS I Love You or the show The Vampire Diaries, then you've definitely heard Ryan Star's music. The alt-rock star has toured with bands like Maroon 5 and Bon Jovi, but his hotly anticipated third album A N G E L S + A N I M A L S is dropping tomorrow and is guaranteed to show off his solo star power.
Since Ryan's on the road to being the next big thing, here are five things to know about him so that you can say you knew him when:
1. His influences include Bon Iver, James Blake, The National, and Frank Ocean.
In fact, Paper magazine once paid him a huge compliment by calling the Brooklyn-based singer "the alt-rock Frank Ocean." So how long until he's working with Jay Z?
2. His new album is autobiographical.
Let's let Ryan explain it: "I gave only the most raw, most honest version of myself on this record. It's primal in that sense. It starts with an apology and takes us on a man's journey to become his best self for the woman he lives for. We are all a bit angel and a bit animal, we do the best we can."
3. His biggest hit owes a small thanks to a blogger.
Ryan's hit single "Stay Awhile," which charted top 30 at Hot AC Radio, first premiered on Perez Hilton's website.
4. He performed the theme song for Lie to Me.
The Fox crime drama, which ran from 2009-2011, featured Ryan's song "Brand New Day" as its opener.
5. He's playing a show in NYC this Tuesday.
