Jenelle Evans has a lot going on.

As fans saw in this week’s episode of Teen Mom 2, the 22-year-old was under a lot of pressure when her boyfriend, Nathan Griffith, was put behind bars for a previous DUI.

This meant in addition to taking care of her son, Jace, the then-pregnant star had to watch Nathan’s two dogs. Unfortunately, the stress took a toll on the reality star, who in turn took it out on the two dogs—by screaming at them, dragging one—Mugan—across the floor by his collar and locking them together in a cramped crate.

On Twitter, thousands of Teen Mom 2 fans took notice. So did PETA.

The animal advocacy group penned a strongly worded letter to the reality star after receiving complaints from viewers about how she treated the pets.

“Viewers can see that as much as you want to do the right thing for your dogs, you have so much going on in your life that you have neither the time nor the patience to give them what they need. They are full of feelings and needs, just as you are, and when you scream at them, it clearly frightens and upsets them,” the letter states.

The letter goes on to explain the physical and emotional dangers of keeping dogs in a crate for extended period of time.

“Please understand that dogs are not toys or amusements or possessions just to have around. They are highly social pack animals, who crave the company of people and other dogs. They deserve to be taken for long walks, allowed to play in the park, and treated as valued family members, not inconveniences in a busy life,” the letter continues.

“The Spartanburg Humane Society can find a more suitable home for these dogs, and PETA can help you if you wish by providing transportation.

“For the dogs’ sake, please accept the humane society’s help.”

It’s unlikely that Jenelle will take the humane society up on their offer—as she and Nathan have responded by posting pictures of the dogs at the park and retweeting fans vocalizing their support for the reality star (by asking why what she did constitutes as abuse) as well people denouncing PETA.

After the episode aired on Wednesday, the mom-of-2 did seize the opportunity to speak to MTV about responsible pet ownership and recognized the incident as “a learning experience.”

“What I learned from this experience is that you always need to be two steps ahead,” she said. “You need to have you dogs trained well, and they need to listen to you as owners.”
