In Touch has exclusively obtained the official Peoria, Ariz., police report, witness statements and mug shot from Married at First Sight‘s David Norton’s August 2007 arrest and can reveal that the incident was far worse then David has admitted to — including smashing his girlfriend’s phone in a rage, grabbing her and pushing her to the ground in front of a police officer, who immediately arrested him.

According to the documents, police witnessed the reality star throw her to the ground as she tried to run out of the apartment they shared.

The report and witness statements from the time should give Ashley Doherty — whom he wed in June 2015 within minutes of meeting as camera for the controversial A&E reality show rolled — great concern:

“I pushed him away from me and ran for the door; when I got there he pushed me and I flew out of the door,” David’s then-girlfriend wrote in her witness statement. Police then forced David to the ground and handcuffed him.

His brother Brian Norton, who called police when an out-of-control David locked him out of the apartment, described chilling threats from David in his handwritten witness report: “David got in my face saying he will slit my throat and [his girlfriend’s],” Brian wrote, detailing his brother flying into a rage because his girlfriend, who had just ended their relationship, did not sleep in their home the night before.

When A&E was made aware that In Touch had obtained the police report, David finally addressed the situation but told a much more tame version of events: “I never hit anyone,” David said. “I was cited for disorderly conduct and I ended up attending one two-hour class. Neither my girlfriend nor my brother ever filed charges.”

In Touch has learned that David eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and documents show he completed not one but 26 two-hour court-ordered anger management classes in 2008.

But the incident was much worse than he’s admitting. His girlfriend said as soon as they moved in together, “David changed and became very possessive,” the arresting officer wrote. Before pushing his girlfriend out the door, David went into a rage and smashed her cellphone while demanding to know where she had slept the night before. He followed her from room to room, shouting, and then grabbed her before she pushed him away, according to the report.

Possibly most shocking of all, In Touch can reveal that the show’s producers knew all about David’s dark past and still set him up with Ashley. “They have his mug shot and arrest record,” a source reveals.
