Dr. Jan Adams — the plastic surgeon who performed the routine liposuction, tummy tuck and breast augmentation that ultimately led to the death of Kanye West’s mother, Donda, is on a mission to clear his name.

In an interview with Inside Edition, Dr. Adams maintains he recommended that the then 58-year-old recover at a facility — but she allegedly insisted her nephew, Stephan Scoggins, a nurse, supervise her recovery instead, thus causing her death.

“What’s Donda West’s problem? Her nurse was gone to a baby shower rather than [taking] care of his aunt,” the doctor explains.

According to the disgraced surgeon, she passed away when she choked on her own vomit because she was laying flat on her back. Had a nurse been supervising, Dr. Adams says, this would not have happened.

“This lady shouldn’t be dead,” he insists. “All you had to do was sit her up. And every nurse on the planet knows that.”

It’s worth mentioning that Donda’s death led to the passing of California’s Donda West Law, which requires patients to undergo a physical before having elective cosmetic surgery — which, for most “reputable” surgeons, was and is already common practice.

Before Donda went under the knife, another doctor refused to do the elective surgery because of a pre-existing health condition that put her at risk. It’s been speculated that had Dr. Adams followed the same protocol, the accomplished English professor would still be alive today.
