It’s hard to believe it’s been nine years since Heath Ledger‘s untimely death — and just one month after what would have been his 38th birthday, some fans are still questioning just how involved Mary-Kate Olsen was in the incident and even his life.

The former child star had a rather questionable reaction to his death and allegedly refused to cooperate with the investigation at the time. However, she did release a statement that read, “Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss. My thoughts are with his family.”

Spike TV released a trailer last month for their documentary called I Am Heath Ledger, which will showcase interviews and home movies the Academy Award winner was part of — and now fans are wondering once again what really went on during their alleged relationship.

A source told People at the time that the pair was “casually dating for three months before Heath’s death. They were hooking up, but neither were particularly interested in making it exclusive.”

“They had a bond that was based on partying, and they had the same tastes in partying — like, in terms of where they liked to hang out in New York, what time they would want to go out. They just had the same sensibility,” the insider added.

Heath was found by his masseuse Diana Wolozin when she arrived at an apartment for his appointment, and she even called the Full House actress several times before dialing 911. Mary-Kate — who was programmed into Heath’s speed dial system — told Diana that she would send in private security for assistance. It was quickly speculated that space The Dark Knight star was found dead in belonged to his alleged girlfriend.

“Neither Mary-Kate nor [her twin sister] Ashley [Olsen] own any apartments in the building where Heath Ledger died,” a source told Access Hollywood at the time.

She also refused to speak with the DEA without guaranteed immunity regarding the drugs found in his system and on site.

“Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger’s home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them,” her attorney disclosed.

I Am Heath Ledger will air on Spike on May 17.
