This is not a good look for Tom Cruise! In Touch can exclusively reveal that the actor, 55, is caught up in a nasty lawsuit — stemming from a 2015 plane crash which killed helicopter stunt operator Alan Purwin and airman Carlos Berl. The incident took place while Tom was filming his flick American Made in Colombia.

“[They’re] adding entire scenes and aerial shots on the fly,” read court documents exclusively obtained by In Touch. “This has become the most insane s–t I’ve ever dealt with.” Tom and the film’s director, Doug Liman, were not named as defendants in the case — however, the victims’ estates also note that their desire to make this “high-risk, action-packed motion picture” contributed to their untimely deaths.

It’s definitely been a tough year for Tom. In Touch reported back in February that his mother, Mary Lee South, passed away at age 80. At the time, a source told Hollywood Life, “Tom has been rocked by the loss of his mother. They were very close and he will miss her dearly. He is staying strong and leaning on close friends and other family during this challenging time.”

However, fans know Tom is no stranger to controversy. Between following Scientology and going countless days without seeing his 11-year-old daughter, Suri [from his six-year marriage with Katie Holmes, 38] — sometimes it’s hard to remember the last time we heard something positive. “[Katie] has reached out…in the hopes of opening a dialogue about resuming contact with Suri,” a source previously told In Touch. “She truly wants Tom to be a part of Suri’s life. Tom is Suri’s father and she wants them to have a relationship.”
