She’s been capturing hearts since she started acting in the mid-‘90’s, but Kate Hudson’s latest role has fans all over America despising her…which is precisely the point.

Kate, who’s been playing evil NYADA dance teacher Cassandra July on Glee since Sept. 2012, recently opened up to Glamour Magazine about what it’s like to play the character everyone loves to hate.

“[Cassandra July] is such a wonderfully nasty character,” Kate says. “I have so much fun playing her. And singing and dancing makes me so happy.”

The mother of two has performed several musical numbers on the show that have showcased her amazing chops and stellar moves. The 34-year-old first wowed fans with a mash-up of Lady Gaga’s “Americano” and J.Lo’s “Dance Again,” and has been bringing the house down since with other showy classics like "All That Jazz."

"Being that mean for me, it's pretty difficult," Kate said at the Fox show's season 4 premiere at Paramount Studios in L.A. "It was challenging to keep a straight face."

But with two of Hollywood’s most well-known actors as parents, we know where Kate gets her talent…and her passion, for that matter.

“There’s a misconception that if you come from famous parents [Kate’s mom is Goldie Hawn, and her stepdad is Kurt Russell], you’re seeking fame for the sake of fame,” she says. “I see it as the opposite: Growing up with parents who were in the spotlight—it was almost like, Wow, if I didn’t love to create characters, I would run as far away from fame as I could get. But I love performing.”

What do you think of Kate’s role on Glee? Should she be invited back for the next season of the hit show?
