Convicted murderer, Scott Peterson, is currently sitting on death row for the murders of Laci Peterson and their unborn son, Connor. Now, a juror — who sentenced him to death — is speaking out.

In 2004, Richelle Nice and 11 other jurors found Scott guilty and he remains in prison pending appeals. The latest appeal, however, is focusing on the now 47-year-old, accusing her of deceiving the judge and attorneys because she allegedly wanted so badly to sit in judgment of the notorious defendant. However, she said the appeals are flat-out wrong. “I did not lie to get on this trial to fry Scott (Peterson). I did not.” She added, “Scott’s appeal lawyers are making up this story. The story is not accurate.”

In an interview in front of the courthouse where the national trial unfolded 13 years ago, Richelle — nicknamed “Strawberry Shortcake” for her flamboyant hair dye — admitted TV cameras captured her saying things she now regrets. Four years before that, when Richelle was pregnant, her then-boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend vandalized his car and kicked in their door. She obtained a judge’s temporary restraining order to keep the woman away because Richelle was “in fear for her unborn child.” Scott’s appeal claims that Richelle wished “in part to punish him for a crime of harming his unborn child – a crime that she personally experienced when (the assailant) threatened her life and the life of her unborn child.”

Mark Geragos, Scott’s defense attorney, said, “There is no way in the world I would have wanted a juror to sit in judgment of Mr. Peterson when that juror had been a victim of the very crime for which Mr. Peterson was on trial.” Richelle, however, vehemently denies the claims. “She never threatened to kill me, to kill my unborn child, to beat me up,” she said. “When I filled out that questionnaire, my situation never came into my mind because it was not similar at all.” She added, “I never heard that any juror has ever been able to ask, ‘May I be on this trial?’ Geragos fought to keep me on,” she said.
