Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Release Joint Statement on Divorce

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached an agreement — at least when it comes to the fate of their divorce papers.

The two have decided that they will handle all details relating to their divorce privately, even using a private judge in order to protect not only their privacy but also the privacy of their children.

“The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues,” the statement, released to the Associated Press, said. “The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification.”

The decision to seal the court documents was highly disputed between the famous parents of Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8.

Brad fought to have the court filings sealed, arguing that he was “extremely concerned” that privacy of his children was at stake if they didn’t seal the documents.

At one point, his lawyers alleged that his estranged wife “exposed the children by making the names of their therapists and other mental health professionals [known].” Her team fired back that his filing was simply a “thinly veiled attempt to shield himself, rather than the children, from the public view.”

Brad and Angelina filed for divorce in September after more than 10 years together, two of which they spent as a married couple. Both husband and wife have remained tight-lipped about their split, largely staying out of the public eye.

In his first interview after the filing, Brad told fans, “It’s really sweet, everyone has been really kind out here. It’s really nice to have all the support.”
