His stint on NBC may have seemed like a jungle, but Andrew McCarthy couldn’t have predicted his wild and scary encounter in Ethiopia. While on assignment recently for travel magazine Afar, the former Lipstick Jungle actor was accosted by an armed guard at the Lalibela church for entering without documentation. Andrew had left his ticket to visit the historic church in his hotel room -- and paid the price for his oversight. "His gun [was] pointed at my back. I thought his reaction to my offense was extreme,” he writes. Fortunately, with help from some kind-hearted locals, Andrew was soon let go and left unharmed.

As for the star cast, the brunette beauty couldn’t spill any secrets. “I won’t be told who my celebrity partner is until two weeks before we meet them for the first time,” she added. However, rumors are swirling that blond bombshell Pamela Anderson will joining the 10th season, premiering on March 22. There is no word yet on who will be replacing Samantha, who co-hosted the dancing competition show for eight seasons with Tom Bergeron.

While most girls her age are spending their disposable income on movies and makeup, superstar singer Taylor Swift, 20, has just plunked down nearly $2 million on a luxurious penthouse in her favorite city in the world: Nashville. “I’m so excited!” says Taylor of the 4,062-square-foot, three-bedroom home she has recently purchased in the swanky Adelicia condo development. Located just minutes away from the city’s downtown area, the high-tech condo has 24-hour concierge service, tight security and lots of space for a young, single superstar to relax between world tours. “I love Nashville,” says Taylor, who grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania with her parents and younger brother, Austin, but always longed to live in superstardom. “I never expected that all this would happen to me,” says Taylor, who still loves living as normal of a life as possible. Fans often see her cruising local roads or shopping around town. “I love Target and Walmart — I find the coolest things there,” she says. The star, who describes her tastes as girlie, says she’s looking forward to decorating her bachelorette pad in a “quirky, whimsical style,” when her current tour for her second album, Fearless, winds down in June. “I love interior designing,” she says.

While HollywoodLife.com is reporting that John Mayer is dating Taylor Swift, In Touch can exclusively reveal that John told a friend that he and Taylor hooked up when they were both in Nashville, Tenn., on January 24. According to a source, the couple met up several times, in public and private, and were first seen getting cozy in a recording studio. “She was sitting on John’s lap, her arms were around him, and she was talking in his ear,” says the source. “They were acting like teenagers.”

That night, John, 32, and Taylor, 20, dined at the restaurant Cabana and were joined by friends afterward. The couple left alone and went back to The Hermitage Hotel, where they arrived in the loading dock to avoid being spotted and were escorted to John’s suite, the source claims. Both of their reps deny the story. But the source claims, “Taylor spent the night and enjoyed mid-morning room service before leaving his suite the next day.”

Though the source says that Taylor “adores” John, it seems the womanizer is up to his old ways, involving yet another starlet in boosting his career. When asked by a friend how his night with Taylor went, John laughed, and boasted, “How do you think it went?”

Jeff Gordon will be going from Daytona to diapers! The NASCAR driver and his actress wife, Ingrid Vandebosch, are expecting their second child this summer. "We're very excited and can't wait to expand our family to four,” Jeff wrote on his official web site. The couple, who wed in 2006, have a 2-year-old daughter, Ella. Despite his impending fatherhood, three-time winner Jeff will be back at the Daytona 500 this month.

More than six weeks after her tragic passing, a cause of death has been determined for Brittany Murphy. According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office report released on February 4, the actress suffered cardiac arrest after a deadly combination of pneumonia, iron-deficiency anemia and “multiple-drug intoxication.” Though officials confirmed that Brittany had ingested prescription drugs, the list of substances that lead to her accidental death will not be disclosed until the final toxicology report is released. The Clueless starlet was found unconscious in her Hollywood Hills home by her mother, Sharon, on December 20. She was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital.

The past month will likely go down as one of the worst in Brooke Mueller’s life. Shortly after husband Charlie Sheen reportedly threatened her with a knife on Christmas, the new mom was hospitalized with a life-threatening illness. As she struggles to get healthy again, she’s been plagued by vicious gossip about drug and alcohol abuse. “There are so many lies out there,” Brooke tells In Touch exclusively, and those close to her want to set the record straight. When Brooke, 32, was rushed to the hospital on January 20, it was because of a dangerous fever resulting from having her wisdom teeth removed — surgery she delayed because of the stress over Charlie’s court date. It was not, as some speculated, because she had been drinking too much. “The infections and pneumonia are what caused the shutting down of her organs,” her mother, Moira Fiore, tells In Touch. “Brooke was very sick.” But when Brooke checked herself into the Two Dreams facility in North Carolina after her release on January 26, the rumors quickly multiplied and grew wilder because of her problems with Charlie. She was said to have relapsed into a crack and alcohol problem and was even accused of having drugs brought to her in the ICU. It’s all nonsense, according to her inner circle. “This is ridiculous!” says her outraged mom. “There were tubes down her throat — how in the world would anyone in this position do drugs?” And since her 11-month-old sons, Bob and Max, mean the world to her, another rumor — that she had to go to rehab for drinking during her pregnancy — was especially hurtful. “It’s so horrible to say,” Moira adds. “She would never put her boys at risk.”
