Pardon us while our inner teenybopper jumps for joy…
New Kids on the Block are officially heading out on tour with fellow boy bands 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men… but that’s not all! The multi-platinum selling group will be releasing 10 — their first album in over four years — on April 2.
While NKOTB fans gear up for the tour of a lifetime, In Touch takes a look at some of our favorite boy bands and why we love them.
Biggest Hit: “Quit Playing Games With My Heart”
Why We Heart Them: Aside from having a handful of No. 1 albums which gave us songs like “I Want It That Way” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” A.J. Nick, Howie, Kevin and Brian are back together again and will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013 where they’ll “pave the way” for other great boy bands.
Biggest Hit: “It’s Gonna Be Me”
Why We Heart Them: Working with artists like Elton John, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson and Celine Dion, N’sync had one of the shortest-lived boy band careers, but was one of the most popular. In addition to serving as the platform for Justin Timberlake’s successful solo career, every self-respecting 90’s kid knows the dance moves from their “Bye Bye Bye” music video.
New Kids on the Block:
Biggest Hit: “Step by Step”
Why We Heart Them: After winning over the hearts of 80’s girls everywhere, the Boston-bred quintet returned to the scene and teamed up with the Backstreet Boys in 2011 as supergroup NKOTBSB. Best. Idea. Ever.
Boyz II Men:
Biggest Hit: “One Sweet Day” featuring Mariah Carey
Why We Heart Them: Their super smooth vocals gifted them multi-platinum status on over 10 different albums. "End Of The Road," "I'll Make Love To You," and "On Bended Knee," are still some of the best sob-inducing breakup songs of all-time.
Biggest Hit: “I Swear”
Why We Heart Them: We can’t decide if they’re a pop group or an R&B quartet, which is precisely what makes them unique. Their slow jam hit “I Swear” granted them a Grammy and is still played at Proms across the country … because it’s that good.
Biggest Hit: “Peaches & Cream”
Why We Heart Them: Talk about a versatile group. The Atlanta quartet began on Diddy's Bad Boy Records in 1996, where they created the sex anthem “Peaches & Cream.” Fast forward, and they were featured on Diddy’s Notorious B.I.G. tribute with Faith Evans, "I'll Be Missing You," which earned them all Grammys in 1997. They can sing the phone book and it will still be amazing.
Biggest Hit: “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)”
Why We Heart Them: Um… have you seen Nick Lachey? Seriously, though, they were born and raised in Ohio, but launched their career in LA where they gave us singles like “The Way You Want Me To,” “Thank God I Found You,” and “My Everything.” It’s highly likely you still have their Revelation album in your car.
Biggest Hit: “Mmmbop”
Why We Heart Them: Brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac are famous for their catchy 1997 hit “Mmmbop,” which won over the hearts of…well, just about everyone. It’s quite possibly the only song made up of incomplete phrases that everybody knows the words to.
Biggest Hit: “What Makes You Beautiful”
Why We Heart Them: Aside from sparking a new "British Invasion" in the states, the boys of 1D are perhaps the "baddest" boy band yet. They've got tons of fans, whove been appropriately dubbed "Directioners," and Harry Styles has already won over the heart of America's sweetheart, Taylor Swift. They're no longer together, but their 2-month relationship was definitely song-worthy enough for Taylor.
Who's your favorite boy band of all-time? Are there any bands we didn't mention who are worthy of a shoutout?
