It’s official! Mariah Carey is saying goodbye to American Idol.
Mariah’s rep Cindi Berger has confirmed to In Touch that the singer has chosen to leave the show, making her the second judge to depart after this season.
“The rest of this year is jam packed with Mariah putting the finishing touches on her much anticipated forthcoming album, headlining the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and appearing in Lee Daniel's The Butler, opening in August which boasts an all-star cast,” Berger tells In Touch. “Riding high on the massive success of her unprecedented multiplatform, her new single "#beautiful" (featuring Miguel), she is embarking on a much anticipated world tour that kicks off this October in Asia.”
CONFIRMED: Randy Jackson Leaving American Idol
While Idol’s ratings have plummeted to an all-time low, Mariah’s career is soaring on the heels of her single reaching number one on the charts in over 30 countries thus far.
Mariah was only on the competition series for one season, joining fellow judges Randy, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj on the panel.
Her exit comes on the heels of reports that FOX is planning to replace the entire panel of current judges. Before Mariah and Randy, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler all graced the judges panel.
