Like most mothers, Joan Rivers has strong opinions when it comes to her daughter’s dating life — especially what single mom Melissa Rivers should be wearing to snag a new man! “Our versions of ‘sexy’ are different,” Melissa dished at In Touch’s Feb. 14 photo shoot at Joan’s NYC penthouse apartment. “My mom can be over-the-top and sparkly — my style is more casual.”

In Touch followed Joan into her closet as the outspoken Fashion Police chief picked out appropriate date attire for her single daughter—and according to the 79-year-old — the more skin, the better. “Melissa doesn’t wear hooker clothes,” Joan tells In Touch with a laugh, “and it kills me!”

While the famous duo admit they often drive each other nuts — Joan splits her time between her NYC apartment and her daughter’s LA pad, where Melissa lives with her 12-year-old son, Cooper, while filming their WEtv reality series Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? (Saturdays at 9 p.m.) — they tell the mag, on newsstands now, they wouldn’t have it any other way. “We support each other,” says Melissa, who has been looking for love since splitting from porn-industry mogul Steve Hirsch in May. “We really make each other laugh.”

Although Melissa admits being single can be hard, she explains her expectations are higher, and after previous failed relationships, she won’t settle for just anyone. “Luckily, my life is pretty great without anyone in it,” the 45- year-old mom tells In Touch. But Joan constantly encourages Melissa to explore outside of her comfort zone to find the one. “Everybody should [try online dating].  It’s the village square of the 21st century!” Joan insists.
