Though Mad Men continued its reign as best drama, two new comedies left their mark on the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards on August 29. Critically acclaimed ABC show Modern Family won best comedy series, while its star Eric Stonestreet took home the best supporting actor golden statuette. “We want to make people laugh, that's our first goal. [We want] people to realize in their hearts that people are more similar than they are different, and we feel honored to do that,” Eric said at the Los Angeles ceremony about his character, new dad Cameron, and the rest of the ensemble cast. FOX’s new musical comedy Glee was also recognized, with Jane Lynch winning best supporting actress. “It means a lot. Just a year ago, I was watching the Emmys, and now I’m here! That’s amazing,” co-star Amber Riley said on the red carpet of her show’s success, which also included castmate Lea Michele’s nomination for best actress, and Neil Patrick Harris winning best guest actor in a comedy series. Other big comedy wins included Nurse Jackie’s Edie Falco for best actress, and The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons for best actor. “This feels absolutely dream-like,” Jim said backstage after his acceptance speech.
