Survivor's Danielle: "I let my emotions take over"

Survivor_danielle0507.jpg In this especially cutthroat season of Survivor, Danielle DiLorenzo was in the only solid alliance left, with Russell and Parvati — but when Russell felt threatened by the close relationship between the women, he conspired to pit them against each other. Though they didn't fall for his tricks, Russell's constant manipulations led to Danielle's breakdown at Tribal Council. "That whole day was so stressful. I was mentally exhausted and hurt," she tells In Touch. "Russell was really getting in our heads and convincing us that we were turning on each other and I got really upset. I’m human and I let my emotions take over. I had to give him a piece of my mind and let him know how I felt and let everybody know how big of a liar he is because he’s just ruthless. My plan was to get him off next and I think he was threatened by me." Unfortunately, Russell had immunity, so her outburst only solidified his plan to get rid of her. The last two Heroes jumped at the chance to help even the playing field, and Danielle was sent home.

Did you believe what Russell was saying about Parvati wanting to betray you?
I did! But after thinking about how close Parvati and I were, I wanted to talk to her. When he said not to talk to her, I got suspicious. I wanted to prove to Parvati that I was going to stay true to the end. Russell made me feel like he was ruining that. We both knew he was messing with our heads and that’s why I said, “I trust you 100 percent.” I was trying to make him feel like our alliance was solid, when in reality the next move was to get him voted off.

Do you respect how he plays the game?
I don’t respect the way he plays the game. You have to keep the end in mind. People that you’re voting off ultimately are going to vote for you. In his first season, he didn’t win the million dollars and he’s not keeping that in mind this season either. If he does make it to the end, I doubt anyone will vote for him. He can say all along that he’s the best player but is being vicious and ruthless going to gain people’s respect? How good of a player are you if you make it to the end and don’t win the money?

Of all of this season’s All-Stars, whose game did you respect?
I was really a big fan of Rob’s and I felt we had the Boston connection, so I really tried to work with him. But I think he was so threatened by Russell that it threw his game off. I originally aligned with Rob and Sandra as well as Parvati and Russell. And the reason why I decided to stick with Russell and Parvati is because Rob pulled in Courtney, Tyson, and Coach and I felt like I was at the bottom of the barrel with Rob. I had a solid alliance with Russell and Parvati. It was a disappointment. I respect Rob’s game, but I think he played too hard and too fast. I think Parvati is playing an amazing game. She can compose herself and not let her emotions get involved, especially with Russell. I know how hard he is to deal with and she’s playing him right.

What was your biggest regret?
I just wish that before Tribal, I would have rallied everybody and gotten them to vote off Russell.

Would you do it again?
The first time, I said I wouldn’t do it again and then four years later they asked me. I had enough time to decompress. I’d do it again. It’s so crazy that I’m saying this again, but I love the game and it’s such an amazing experience.
