Back to Urban life for Tim

American Idol gave back last night with its special Idol Gives Back two- hour charity event, and with the help of a special appearance by President Obama and the first lady, and guests including Sir Elton John, Carrie Underwood, Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox, Victoria Beckham, Morgan Freeman, Wanda Sykes, George Lopez, Queen Latifah and David Cook, $15 million was raised before the show's end. In past Idol Gives Back specials, contestants were given a reprieve from the dreaded elimination, but not last night — Tim Urban was sent home.

“When I auditioned, I honestly didn’t think I would make it past the stadium,” said Tim afterward. “This whole thing has blown me away. It’s been a crazy run and I am just looking forward to the tour.”

Simon liked your attitude and they way you handled yourself throughout the show. Did that mean a lot to you?
That was part of my goal on the show. Not just to improve as an artist, but to be a good contestant and not let anything get me down, complain or talk back. I took what they were saying and improved. It was cool to get recognition for that and it’s something I am proud of.

Was it tough having to wait so long to find out you were going home?
The wait wasn’t that hard because it was such an awesome show — you kind of forgot it was a results show because of how amazing the performances were and how touching the videos were. I was a little sad I didn’t get to sing one last time on that stage, but I’ll get to come back for the finale, so it’s all right.

If you could turn back time and show America one thing about you, what would it be?
That’s hard to say, because in the last few weeks I showed America the kind of artist I would be. There were a few weeks I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but when I settled down and was myself, it showed. Looking back, I did what I wanted to do.

Did you get to meet Carrie Underwood last night? Rumor has it she really wanted to meet you all.
No, I actually didn’t. As she came onto the stage, I was getting pulled away to do interviews. I’m sad I didn’t but hope I will get the chance in the future. But I will keep wearing the necklace she gave me. It has a lot of sentimental value and I really like it.

You have a large family — could you be the next Osmonds, or could we see you on Glee?
Well, I’d love to do music, but I have always had a desire to act. I’d be excited to do that and am open to any of that. There are 10 in total in my family — five boys and five girls — I am sixth and right in the middle. We are all really close. My family is really supportive and encouraging, and my sister has a great voice, too.
