Sugar's the first player sent home Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains

sugar_surv.jpg Some of the most memorable people ever to play Survivor are back for the 20th season of the show. This time around, the tribes are made up of past heroes and villains, who have set up their camps in the South Pacific. As soon as the game began, the villains proved that they were out for blood and managed to dislocate Stephanie's shoulder and break fan-favorite Rupert's toe! After losing the Immunity Challenge, the heroes found themselves at their first Tribal Council, where Jessica "Sugar" Kiper found herself on the chopping block. "I knew I was going to go home early, unless some miracle happened," Sugar tells In Touch. Unfortunately for her, there was no miracle or mercy from her fellow tribe members, and she became the first casualty of the game.

Were you surprised to be invited back to play again?
Sugar: I hope it doesn't sound cocky if I say, no, I wasn't surprised. I was hoping to get the call, and when I did, I was excited.

Did you like being on the Heroes tribe?
Sugar: I was happy to be on the tribe labeled Heroes instead of Villains. Yet, I didn't really know a lot about some of them, and I didn't have too long to get to know them. But I didn't feel like everyone was a hero or that all of the villains were necessarily villains, except maybe Russell and definitely Tyson.

What did it feel like to be the first player eliminated?
Sugar: Maybe it was retribution for having had it so easy when I played in Gabon. I knew after a couple hours that I was in trouble, actually. And after a few days, I realized that I wouldn't mind going home first. But I didn't tell anyone that I wanted to go home. I'm not a quitter.

Did you like the South Pacific location better than when you played in Gabon?
Sugar: I was miserable. It was so hard. I don't even understand how people get through the rest of this game with the rain. I know there have been some really harsh seasons, and I got lucky the first time I played. Had it not been so easy for me the first time, I don't think I would have agreed to go again so quickly.

How was your strategy different this time around?
Sugar: My strategy this time was to try to win. Look where that got me.

Who do you think should have gone home?
Sugar: I think that the Micronesia five should have been a target right from the start. They've already played together. I also think Cirie should have gone home. I kept telling her that we need to make ourselves look useful around camp, but she just didn't care about that. Literally, I knew that I was one of the weakest links, and that I needed to look useful and be helpful around camp as much as I could. I gave it my best.

Who are you rooting for now?
Sugar: I guess Russell. He came so close during his first season. He's psychic or something. Out of the people who might make it toward the end, I just want to see him play longer. I want to see what he does. I'll be watching every Thursday.

What's next for you?
Sugar: I play the drums in a band called She Loves Betty White. We haven't recorded anything yet. We're waiting until we have at least six or seven songs down before we release anything.
