Laura's torch is extinguished on Survivor: Samoa

laurasurv.jpg Laura Morett proved herself to be a tough competitor during the 29 days she spent on Survivor: Samoa. But not even physical strength could save her when the votes were read at Tribal Council. When the results of the first vote ended in a tie, the Aiga tribe was forced to revote. "I knew that I was going home," Laura tells In Touch. "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. I was actually surprised that Natalie and I were tied during the first vote."

So you weren't blindsided by the tribe? Laura: No, I knew it was coming. I had time to compose myself and get my thoughts together. I held my head up and stayed classy. But it's not fun. It sucks. I hate to lose.

Why did Shambo dislike you so much? Laura: I can't think for someone else, but I can assume. I guess she wanted to be the alpha female of the tribe. She wanted to be the go-to girl. But the tribe always referred to me as the strong girl, and I think that made her dislike me even more. I knew a lot about the islands. My mother is full Hawaiian, so I was able to show them how to do things. And she felt like the other tribe members were defending me and sticking up for me, which I guess made her feel more like she was on the outside.

Who do you think deserved to go home? Laura: Jaison wants to go home. So in that respect, I would say that Jaison deserved to go home because he gave up at a certain point in the game. He lost his fire and was really feeling beaten down by the island.

What are you paying attention to as a member of the jury? Laura: I'm looking for somebody that is a fighter. I'm looking for a person who came into the game with a strategy and didn't just blatantly lie to everyone's face. If someone can do that in this game, I will give him or her the $1 million prize in a heartbeat.

Are you surprised that three Galu members have gone home since the merge? Laura: Yes, I was surprised when Erik went home. Nobody knows this, but Brett and me were really tight, and he would tell me everything that was going on. But when Kelly got blindsided is when the entire game changed.

What was the hardest part of the 29 days you were playing the game? Laura: I didn't really think that it was that hard. I'm a tomboy. I'm a camper. I ride my Harley, and I live in Oregon, where it rains all the time and is freezing cold. Yes, I hated being cold and wet, but I knew that the sun was eventually going to come out. But the hardest part was being away from my family for so long. Not seeing my granddaughter for two months was tough. I've been married almost 22 years and have amazing kids and an amazing granddaughter, so to block that out was hard. I'm a mom. They're my life. I think that's why I bonded with Monica and Kelly. I felt like I had some girls around me.
