Guys take the lead on Idol

Despite powering through rock week with a roaring rendition of Janis Joplin’s "Cry Baby," American Idol bid farewell to Allison Iraheta on the May 6 episode of the show. After a final count of the record-breaking 64 million votes received, the bubbly 17-year-old exited as the last girl standing (as Simon Cowell predicted weeks ago). “The guys were so much fun, and there was a lot of teasing,” said Allison after being eliminated. “But it was all love. They did treat me like a little sister and they would stand up for me and help me. It was great.”

The packed show also featured performances from the week's guest mentor guitarist Slash, Daughtry, a newly reformed No Doubt and Idol judge Paula Abdul, who performed her new single “I'm Just Here for the Music," marking the first time in Idol’s eight season history she has graced the stage as an entertainer.

With the competition now down to three, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, it’s anyone’s guess who will take the Idol crown. Next week the three remaining guys return to their hometowns for a visit and musical guests Jordin Sparks and Katy Perry will perform.

Age: 17
Hometown: Los Angeles
Eliminated: May 6

“I think I did pretty good and am proud of myself.”

Q: As the last girl, how were you treated by the guys?
Allison:
There was a lot of teasing, but it was so fun. They’d pick on me and if we were arguing they’d tell me to stay out of it because I was only 12 years old. But it was all love and so cool. It really was a family and they really would stand up for me and the cool thing is they’d help with song choice - it was great. I got lucky as they pulled no pranks on me.

Q: Well finishing fourth is not bad – Chris Daughtry finished fourth.
Allison:
I know, I know, which is really cool for me, so hopefully something good will happen. It made me feel better that he was there last night too and to know he’s done so well. I hope I do as well as he has.

Q: How was having your mom with you at the mansion?
Allison:
My mom was great support and I was very lucky to have her with me the whole time. She knew when I was singing it was a whole different story and she let me do what I had to do. It was awesome having her with me.

Q: What did you think of Simon’s constant criticism of your personality?
Allison:
I know every week it was that I am so boring and I was like, okay, Simon. I am really not the type of person to talk back, out of respect, I just don’t. But when he said start begging I thought okay that’s it. I felt it was the perfect time to stand up for myself. I am not boring! But I got comments about everything else too and it kind of bummed me out – come on, I am singing here. I took a lot of risks with fashion and stuff. But I think I did pretty good and am proud of myself.

Q: How did you guys deal with the accident that happened on Tuesday that forced you to cancel rehearsals?
Allison:
We didn’t know how to react, it was the rehearsal and Debbie the stage manager is a good friend of ours. But she is doing better. We were all cautious and wanted to know how she was doing during the show and knowing she was fine helped us continue. We were all a little distracted and that day was just not going well. Nothing went the way it was supposed to. We had to just go on with show.

Q: Who are you telling people to vote for now?
Allison:
They have to vote for whoever they think is awesome. This competition is so crazy as everyone is so different. It’s about who you like and connect to. That person will be the next Idol and be great, so vote for who you feel connects with you.
