Oprah considered to take Obama’s senate seat
“Oprah for President” was a pretty popular refrain a couple years ago, and it looks like the talk-show host was seriously considered by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to take President Obama’s seat in the Senate. “She seemed to be someone who had helped Barack Obama in a significant way to become president,” said the governor to Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America. In the end, though, he chose to go with former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris because “[Oprah] probably wouldn’t take it, [and] if I offered it to her, how do you make sure it doesn’t look like a gimmick?” The governor himself is in a heap of trouble for allegedly trying to sell Obama’s seat to the highest bidder; his impeachment trial started today. However, he maintains his innocence. “I’ll have a chance in a criminal case to show my innocence and bring witnesses.”
